The two men appear opposite in every way, but their meeting ignites a persevering mutual fascination that threatens their perceptions, their outside relationships, and even their personal well-being.

Hoffman and Phoenix both give the all-time best performances of their already-incredible careers, with equally strong work from Amy Adams as Dodd's brilliant wife/business partner. Anderson's script and direction, completed with stunning 65mm photography, create the type of viewing experience that feels even more authentic and compelling than actual life. THE MASTER is one of the rarest accomplishments possible: a perfect movie.
