Dialogue with the Dean: A Chat Between SSW Students and Dean Luis Zayas

SWELL is proud to host "Dialogue with the Dean," an opportunity for all students of the School of Social Work to get to know Dean Zayas and draw on his experiences as a clinical practitioner, researcher and academic. We also know you are curious about what the Dean has in store for the School as it continues to evolve to meet the changing landscape of social problems.
All undergrad and grad students are invited to actively participate with questions and conversation for the Dean as he speaks about… Show more his experiences as well as the future of the School.
Dean Zayas came to the UT School of Social Work last year from Washington University in St. Louis, where he was also the founder and director of the Center for Latino Family Research. He is a recognized expert on the topic of Latina suicide rates and interventions with Latino families. Currently he is focusing his research on the impact of deportation on the psychosocial functioning of U.S.-born citizen-children of undocumented Mexican immigrants. He was a direct mental health practitioner for many years in Manhattan and the Bronx. Zayas is a native of Coamo, Puerto Rico.
