The Austin Trail of Lights is making the season bright with a celebration for the whole family to enjoy. The festivities begin with the Trail of Lights 5K on Dec. 15 and the grand opening in Zilker Park on Dec. 16th. This year’s events include numerous performers with designated themes each night. Austin Trail of Lights is brought to the city by a partnership between RunTex Carrozza Foundation and Forefront Austin with H-E-B as the lead sponsor.

Easily the most poorly planned venue of my life!
Don't drive by car - we waited in a looong line of cars for two hours before finally parking by IHOP and hoofing it the rest of the way - and that was quite a trek as well.
Don't take the freakin' shuttle bus - they were waiting in the looong line of vehicles as well, because event planners had planned for only ONE WAY into the park - crazy!
Don't take credit cards - everything - food, fun lights for the kids, etc., only took CASH.
Don't expect a leisurely stroll through the 1.2 mile enclosed trail - people were PACKED like cattle for the first half of the walk. Trying to make your way through strollers, crowds of kids and camera-snapping adults was awful.
Don't look for seating - one picnic table at the entrance and five at the end (near the food) is all you'll see.
Don't look for any handicap amenities - wheelchair rentals, seating along the trail, etc. - simply didn't exist. There were a few white chairs at the end, and luckily a kind volunteer used his cart to drive us to the front of the park - so we could make that looong trek back up the hill to our car.
According to a volunteer, they were supposed to have 200 volunteers on hand to help out and only 75 showed up. The free books for the kids, courtesy of HEB, didn't materialize, except for their booth.
Vendor lines were looong and again, unless you had cash on hand, you're out of luck.
The lights were wonderful, the displays cute - except one display at the end that was labeled "scary" by our 3 year old critic. The displays were difficult to view if you were in the middle of the crowd.
The median age of the trail-goers was between 2 and 30 - if you're older, don't walk well, cannot stand the cold nip in the air, hate crowds - forgitaboutit!
