SoundSpace: Post-Classical

The Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas at Austin announces the return of one of its best-loved programs, SoundSpace. Developed by the Blanton and its Artist-in-Residence Steven Parker, SoundSpace is a concert series that brings together musicians and other creatives from all corners of Austin's artistic community for simultaneous performances throughout the museum. In anticipation of SXSW, this concert - the fifth in the series- will take place on March 10 at 2PM and will showcase compositions… Show more that transcend classical, pop, and rock idioms to blur genres in innovative new ways. Scheduled artists include Graham Reynolds, and Mother Falcon, and performances of works by Steve Snowden, Andy Sigler and others.

Austin–favorite Mother Falcon will perform songs from their upcoming album, and Peter Stopchinski of the Golden Hornet Project will perform Zen Songs. Other highlights include opera scenes from One Ounce Opera, the virtuosic saxophonists of Bel Cuore Saxophone Quartet, and a choral performance by Convergence, with members of Conspirare and Roomful of Teeth. The program’s climatic conclusion features an interactive, community sing-along of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. Led by the SoundSpace performers, the popular rock operetta will be re-imagined and reconstructed.
