Given their unabashedly lo-fi aesthetic, their predilection for psychedelia, and their old-school pop sensibilities, the Jacuzzi Boys sound like direct descendants of 1960s garage rock. Although they might sound like they could've appeared on the original Nuggets compilation, the Jacuzzi Boys are most definitely a product of the 21st century; Gabriel Alcala (guitar) and Diego Monasteri (drums) teamed up to form the Jacuzzi Boys in Miami, Florida in 2007....
Named for his fear of the ocean, Wavves, the skuzzy project of San Diego slacker Nathan Williams, is a blend of distorted no-fi and refined sunshiny melodies. Charmingly messy, most of his lyrics, while difficult to decipher, generally revolve around the subjects of weed, boredom, and the beach -- when he isn't poking jabs at the gloomy subculture of goth rock (a common theme, found in "Goth Girls," "California Goths," "Summer Goths," "Surf Goths," and "Beach Goths")....
