Created by The Russian House
Ulrich Ellison was born and raised in Graz, Austria, though his ancestral roots go back to Ireland. After paying his dues in the rich Viennese music scene, a prestigious jazz scholarship enables him to settle in one of America’s musical hot spots – Austin TX....
We met on a freezing, rainy night beside a hobo fire in East Austin. While awaiting a slow boxcar, our common interests and hunger inspired us to band together. We almost immediately started playing a carefully chosen repertoire of radical re-interpretations of jazz, rock and blues classics, along with an ever-growing treasure chest of self-penned masterpieces....
East Side Dandies are a collective of musicians that come together with a mutual, unconditional love for the earliest forms of jazz. East Side Dandies bring their version of early American jazz to an often times, forgetful public, with high hopes that they will be reminded again for the first time, that there was once a very rich, high spirited form of music that made everyone feel like everything would be okay....
I cannot believe that the person who did not even try the restaurant gives half of a star ! I know about the Armenian Azerbaijanian conflict but I had to do my own research and this is what I found: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khash_%28dish%29, so dear Ayaz you are wrong ! I have been to this restaurant; the atmosphere is amazing, decor is outstanding and the food is phenomenal ! I am Russian myself so I know what I am talking about ! And their Uzbek Plov is absolutely delicious !
I have seen the menu, and decided that I am not interested in visiting the place. The menu has Armenian dish which they call "Khash"....Well, Armenians dont eat khash because it is authentic Azerbaijani dish-please refer to Azerbaijani cookbook. They also have Uzbek plov on the menu.. Gosh, Uzbek cuisine is as far from Russian as we from Moon. If they are limited in their knowledge of Russian authentic cuisine, they should have called the place "House of former USSR"!
The prices for a little soup or dish are ridiculous too.
I am so excited about this restaurant opening! I spent some time in the Republic of Georgia and have been looking for this kind of restaurant in Austin for a long time! I will definitely be there the first week it opens! I emailed the owner about some Georgian food and got a response back within the hour. They are very nice people. :)
*On a side note: Im not sure why Nullexe gave the restaurant 1 star just because it was not open yet. Do your research! That entire review sounds spoiled and entitled. I think this restaurant will be lovely when it opens!
Nullexe,
Your review not only angers me, it is a complete joke. If your girlfriend is Russian, like my wife, she would definitely not want you to bash anything related to her "home".It is extremely hard for places to stay open these days, especially with all the pencil neck, Facebook humping, loser men like you in Austin. There is zero Russian Culture in this town, and theses folks are bringing something very special to downtown Austin. So please remove your half star review. You can not give a place half a star because you needed it open for her birthday. OMG, you had to find out from their Facebook page they were not open!!! You poor thing. She is a Russian woman. She does not need you in order for her to get a taste of "home". Remove your review and let something bigger than your ego survive in this town. When you do eat at this restaurant, try to spend more than $30.00 on dinner and don't forget to tip. YOU ARE LAME!
Very disappointed that while their website and all review sites state that the restaurant is open 19 hours a day, 7 days a week, after planning to take my girlfriend there for her birthday, to get her a taste of home, I had to find out from their Facebook page that they have not opened the doors for business at all yet, and that their opening date is "a few weeks" and has been for over a month.
I really hope their food and service beats their website information, or a lot more people are going to be disappointed.

I spotted a friend during a recent meal at The Russian House and felt a jolt of surprise. Not the regular and welcomed response to seeing a friend … a genuine shock. The kind you feel when you run into someone you know from back home while you’re traveling abroad. Say, in Russia.
