The schedule is set for the 2013 Old Settler’s Music Festival, featuring some of the world’s finest roots, bluegrass and Americana artists including Michael Franti, Del McCoury Band, Son Volt, Martin Sexton, Jerry Douglas and Carolina Chocolate Drops. The 26th annual festival is slated for Thursday, April 18, through Sunday, April 21, at the Salt Lick BBQ Pavilion and Camp Ben McCulloch in the Texas Hill Country, just south of Austin on FM 1826.

Michael Franti
Since his days as a member of the Beatnigs while in his early twenties, Michael Franti grew from an angry young hip-hopper with a political, socially conscious bent (the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, Spearhead) to a man who channeled his seriousness, social unease, and desire for change and merged them with his love for music, particularly old-school R&B, soul, and hip-hop....

The son of maverick Texas songwriter Steve Earle (and carrying the middle name of his dad's mentor, Townes Van Zandt), Justin Townes Earle shares just a hint of his father's vocal style in his voice, and like the elder Earle, he writes his own songs, but aside from the fact that both Earles fall to the country side of the Mason-Dixon Line, there are probably far more differences in their musical approaches than there are similarities....
