Dinosaur Jr.
After their first release in 1985, Dinosaur Jr. influenced a generation of young guitar bands; along with the Pixies and Sonic Youth, they provide the link between the post-punk rock of Hüsker Dü and Replacements and the grunge rock of the '90s....

Marianas Trench
Not only is Marianas Trench the deepest known spot in any ocean (located in the floor of the North Pacific Ocean), but it's also a Vancouver-based rock band that is the brainchild of vocalist/guitarist Josh Ramsay....

Down by Law
Following his departure from All after the group's first two albums under that name, vocalist/guitarist Dave Smalley (also formerly of Dag Nasty) put together Down By Law in 1991 with ex-Clawhammer guitarist Chris Bagarozzi and the former Chemical People rhythm section of Ed Urlik (bass) and Dave Nazworthy (drums)....

Screeching Weasel
Chicago's Screeching Weasel generally have a polarizing effect on most punk fans -- either you love their amateurish, tuneful Ramones imitation and singer/guitarist Ben Weasel's smartass suburbanite, often pop culture-oriented lyrics, or you hate them....

Hanson
Sounding like a revamped Jackson 5 for the '90s, Hanson came storming out of Tulsa, OK, in 1997, blessed with photogenic looks and a surprisingly infectious sense of melody. Hanson had a sunny pop sense that stood in direct contrast to the gloomy grunge that had dominated the first half of the '90s, yet they also arrived with hip credentials -- a handful of the cuts on their debut were produced by the Dust Brothers (Beastie Boys, Beck, Sukia), and the rest were produced by Steve Lironi, who helmed Black Grape's debut....

Say Anything
Say Anything are the pop-punk brainchild of Max Bemis, who founded the band while its initial members were still attending high school in Los Angeles. Although the lineup has since featured a rotating cast of characters, Bemis remains at the band's core, spinning tales of insecurity and frustration with help from longtime drummer Coby Linder....
