Wayne Static and Ken Jay formed the heavy metal band Static-X in Chicago in the mid-1990s. Relocating to Los Angeles, where there was a more fertile metal scene, they recruited Koichi Fukuda and Tony Campos and developed their trademark "rhythmic trancecore," retooling the electronic industrial sound pioneered by bands like Ministry.
