Originally conceived as a one-off collaboration between Okkervil River's Will Sheff and Kingfisher's Jonathan Meiburg, Shearwater continues the tradition of detailed, reflective songwriting set by classic artists like Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen and contemporary indie rock songwriters such as Bill Callahan and Will Oldham. Jonathan Meiburg and company proved they were a unique force in the Austin music scene with the 2008 release of “Rook,” a seductively dark affair elevated by Meiburg’s haunting, operatic voice.

Playing full albums, especially classic ones, in a live setting has become trendy in recent years, with a range of artists including the Pixies and Slick Rick attempting to bring their studio creations to life as they were originally presented.
